Jacob Richard Kosorok – “Jake” or “Jake the Dog”

Jake was rescued by a good friend of mine when he was only 5 weeks old. He was stuck in a snowdrift in a country field and may have become part of nature’s food chain or frozen to death had she not found him. I had an older dog (K.D.) with many health issues, so I took the puppy on a week’s trial basis, on the condition he wouldn’t bother or upset her. I’ve never seen a puppy be so respectful of another dog. As much as he wanted to interact with her and get her attention, he restricted himself to gently playing with the hair of her tail and spooning her when she was asleep. Very soon it became apparent that Jake was an angel. Richard, the brother of my friend who found Jake, passed on days after Jake was rescued. Jake helped the family through their grieving process, and assisted in 3 other grieving processes in the first six months of his life. I considered him to be an “old soul”. He also had athleticism and an amazing focus at such a young age. I knew I needed to do something to challenge him and help him reach his full potential, so we became involved in search and rescue. Jake in now 6 years old and became fully certified as an “Air Scent Dog” in 2009. He is a mixed breed (not sure what…he is “just Jake”). Jake is athletic, smart, hard working, a good problem solver, loyal, joyful, loving, and very handsome…he is the total dog package!
